Special Notes

WineMate PC is released as "WineWare" software. It is freely available, and if you like it you can send me a bottle of wine you like.

It is intended to work with WineMate Palm release 4.0.

WineMatePC is intended to be a "companion" application for WineMate/Palm, allowing you to manage your Palm databases on your desktop.

Please note carefully that WineMatePC is very much "use at own risk".

Introduction

Welcome to WineMate PC, the WineMate Palm Pilot companion.

The author created WineMate PC to provide a simple, easy to use WineMate Palm desktop companion.

I tried to make it as simple and as intuitive as possible, these notes are provided just to explain a few things that may not be immediately obvious.

The contact email address for WineMate PC is winematepc@free.fr

Getting Started

WineMate PC is designed to run on any Windows Platform, from Windows 95 up to Windows XP. WineMate PC has been tested on Windows 2000 and Windows XP. It is not possible to test all Windows OS combinations. Please report bugs so they can be fixed!

To install WineMate PC, simply unzip the package into C:\Program Files\WineMatePC,
run C:\Program Files\WineMatePC\WM_Install.exe to install PC Conduit,
process an Hotsynch,
and finally run C:\Program Files\WineMatePC\WineMatePC.exe

Installation Notes:

1. The installation provides some import parameters files stored in the C:\Program Files\WineMatePC. Those files are listed below :

         - P_Bordeaux.csv provides the entire ‘Appellation’ definition for the Bordeaux Area.

         - P_Burgundy.csv provides the entire ‘Appellation’ definition for the Burgundy Area.

         - P_Classement.csv provides the Bordeaux area classification used by the Bordeaux Grand Cru Classé Wine import file.

         - W_Medoc.csv provides the complete list of Grand Cru Classé in 1855, in addition the list of Cru bourgeois classified according the 2003 Classification (with rank).

         - W_St-Emilion.csv provides the list for the St-Emillion Classification.

Please send me your list(s), to be posted on the WEB
Once you have installed WineMate PC, you need to assign the directory in which you store your local copy of the WineMate database files

Using WineMate PC

General Usage

As with WineMate Palm, WineMate PC allows you to manage information about wine:

1     Wine records
2     Tasting records
3     Cellar records
4     Parameters records

The version 4.30 introduce a full synchronization between WineMate PC and WineMate Palm.

Then you just have to Hostsynch, in order to synchronize the files between the two platforms.

Before creating new WineMate database files, always make sure you have saved a copy of your current database files in a safe place. If something goes wrong with the update, you should always be confident you can reinstall a copy of your previous database files. There is no way to backout changes made with WineMatePC.

Wine Records

The wine list shows by default all the wines in Cellar. To display all the wines, you have to select "Show empty Cellar".

The filter button allows defining a very precise selection (see below).

A view of the Wine is available on the right of the Dialog, with Cellar and Tasting related records, which can be added or viewed.

Double click on the wine, or a click on Edit, allows modifying the record.

The Cellar display how many bottles are in Cellar for the selected wines. If you select Cellar View, a Cellar Dialog will open with a filter applied on the Wine Producer that create the selected Wine. You can then see all the wines from this producer, including the selected wine.

Filter

The Filter Dialog allows you to filter on different field based on an AND.

All the selected fields are active to process the filtering.

The example implements a filter on the Area Loire.

We can then enhance the filter with a specific year, by example 1998, or requesting only the Red wines in the Loire Area.

Bugs & Limitations

As WineMate PC is intended to work with WineMate Palm, it has the same limitations.
On some PC configurations, Anti Virus software (especially Norton) can significantly slow down PDB loading

- if you find this is the case, try disabling your Anti Virus software

Enjoy !
